Duties

  • Operate computer and associated systems/facilities according to prescribed standards and procedures, monitor system performance, provide system operation support and maintenance
  • Prepare jobs according to prescribed procedures, ensure their successful completion, perform completeness and qualities check of computer output
  • Provide first line support to users and perform help desk activities using assigned tools, carry out on-site inspection, and take recovery action if needed as according to prescribed procedures
  • Assist in setting up workstation or networked equipment, including scheduling and monitoring of installation/relocation of computer equipment, and carrying out site inspection/preparation work
  • Handle logging and administrative reporting as according to prescribed requirements and assist in preparation of statistics and reports

Requirements

  • Level 2 or equivalent or above in five subjects, including Chinese Language and English Language, in the HKDSE, OR
  • Level 2 / Grade E or above in five subjects, including Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B before 2007), in the HKCEE, OR
  • Diploma/Higher Diploma/Degree holder in Computer Science or equivalent
  • At least 2 years of working experience as an IT Assistant
  • Solid experiences in administration of Microsoft Windows platforms and PC support
  • Solid shift duty work experience (including overnight shift) required
  • Work on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, and/or during adverse weather conditions such as when typhoon signal no. 8 or above is hoisted may be required as assigned (Government shuttle service could be provided under adverse weather conditions)
  • Experience in administration of Linux and/or UNIX platforms would be an advantage
  • Good understanding and hands-on experience of Observatory operations and support would be an advantage
  • The job requires the following mandatory skills:
    • 2 years x  Microsoft Active Directory Administration and System Backup Operation
    • 1 year x  Experience in Datacentre Maintenance, Helpdesk Call Handling Technique and  Shift work
